Business Partners' Update Term 1 2021
Nau mai, haere mai, welcome to this Business Partners update for Term 1.
Each term we weill be sending out an update to let you know what is happening within APPA.
We started the years hoping that our year wouldn't be too disrupted but, like last year, Covid happened. That has meant a change of date for our AGM (see below) but hopefully that will be all.
As I write this, I am streaming TVNZ live onto the tv watching the Americas Cup. What an exciting few days of racing there have been!
The significance of seeing Team New Zealand sails emblazoned with the logos of their business partners and sponsors as I write this hasn't been lost on me. Whilst the APPA cause isn't unifying the country such as Team New Zealand's is, the support we receive from you as business partners means APPA is able to support our principal members to enable better education outcomes for nearly 50% of New Zealand's primary aged students. The impact of your support may not be immediately visible in the same way as Team New Zealand's sponsors but will be long lasting and potentially benefit the country more in the future. Thanks seems such a small word but it is a huge heartfelt thanks!
Ngā mihi nui,
Kevin Bush
Business Partners' Liaison
Sadly, the recent Alert Level 3 lockdown for Auckland clashed with our AGM as we were still in Level 2 when we should have been meeting. However, all going well, we have been able to secure Wednesday 14 April for our Business Partners Luncheon and AGM. Gretchen Stone, APPA's honorary lawyer, will be our guest speaker and will speak on the changes to the Privacy Act - something that all principals need to be aware of and prehaps a gem or two for you in your own situation as well.
The remaining luncheons are on:
Term 2 - 26 May
Term 3 - 18 August
Term 4 - 3 November
You will note that we have shifted away from the Business Partner breakfasts. This was due to the mayhem that is Auckland morning traffic. Whilst we acknowlegde that many principals who go into school for the morning often can't get away in the middle of the day, we are hopeful that they will use these luncheons to connect with feloow principals and use the rest of the day to take care of their won well-being.

Although this year's conference is still some time away the conference committee is already looking at who our speakers will be. In the meantime, block out 20-22 October for this year's conference. All going well, the conference will return to the Hilton, Taupo the week prior to Labour Weekend.
