APPA / PCT Project 2020 - 11 grants available.

APPA / PCT Project 2020 - 11 grants available

The Auckland Primary Principals’ Association and the Ministry of Education currently administer the 2020 PCT Project (previously known as the Auckland Beginning Teacher Project) to boost the number of beginning teachers in high roll growth schools.

The project supports these teachers through to full certification, help to ease supply pressures for the schools involved and improve what we know of the factors that build retention early in a teaching career.

There are 11 grants that need to be reallocated.

Features of the Scheme

  • Participating schools will commit to employing PCTs (Beginning Teachers), with an induction period of up to six months where they ‘shadow’ an expert junior teacher until roll growth allows them to take leadership of their own class.
  • Participating schools will commit to providing induction and mentoring to full registration and to employing the PCT in a permanent or fixed term position (two year minimum) to enable them to meet the criteria for full registration.
  • The Ministry will provide $24K in support of each participating school to cover the first two terms of shadowing.
  • Participating PCTs will commit to teaching continuously in the school that recruits them for at least two years, enabling them to meet the criteria for full registration.
Who State and state-integrated primary schools in the Auckland region
